21 Day Lower Dolpo Trek

In fact, Dolpo’s Tarap and Phoksundo Lake were the shooting locations for Eric Vialli’s charming movie ‘Himalaya’ about Tibetan salt traders, depicting the lifestyle and story of survival and enduring traditions of the Dolpopas in their harsh mountain environment.

Dolpo was also the inspiration and subject for Peter Matthiessen’s book ‘The Snow Leopard’ which chronicles his journey through Dolpo. The endangered and elusive snow leopards inhabit the upper reaches of this region as do a variety of fauna such as snow pigeons, Himalayan griffons, Nepal’s national bird the Impheyan Pheasant, and blue sheep.
